Duggar News reports that Joseph and Kendra Duggar withdrew the not guilty pleas entered in April. Instead, Joseph and Kendra submitted a plea by order covering all eight charges, according to the noted source. The filing allowed guilty or no contest pleas and avoided their scheduled Washington County District Court appearance on Monday, Aug. 10. The judge must now sign an order accepting it and determine penalties.
Court officials told the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that Joseph and Kendra Duggar’s plea-by-order filing allows the cases to be diverted for 12 months. The cases will remain open during that period, giving the judge time to determine the outcome and any penalties. If convicted on all eight counts, Joseph and Kendra could each face up to eight years in prison and thousands of dollars in fines.
The filing does not immediately end the related custody issues. After Joseph and Kendra Duggar’s arrests, their children were initially removed, and the couple could not contact them. Kendra later regained supervised contact after attorney Travis Story filed a motion that led to the restriction being lifted. Joseph sought unsupervised contact, but a judge denied the request under Florida pretrial conditions barring unsupervised contact with anyone under 18.
Joseph Duggar’s Florida molestation case remains separate and pending. Arkansas officials are assessing the plea submission, while Kendra Duggar remains represented by Travis Story.
